A deadline of Oct. 1 for a new deal between port workers and ownership is approaching, and after talks broke down during the summer, tensions are high.

A potential strike could impact ports across the United States, including the Port of Mobile. The International Longshoreman Association union represents over 45,000 workers on the East and Gulf coasts.

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) has called for President Joe Biden to take action to prevent a strike along the East Coast that poses a major financial impact should the strike go through. The Biden administration has stated there are currently no plans to use a federal law to prevent a strike along U.
