Bhubaneswar: An army officer and his fiancee, who were allegedly assaulted at a police station here, on Monday met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, a day after the state government ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident.

The Odisha government on Monday ordered a judicial inquiry into the alleged assault on an Army Major and his fiancee on September 15 at Bharatpur police station here.

BJD cancelled the Bhubaneswar bandh planned for September 24, a day after it was called to protest the alleged custodial torture.

The Bharatpur police station, where the alleged incident happened, does not have CCTV cameras though it was inaugurated in March this year as a model police station

The incident reportedly took place on September 15 when the Army Major and the woman went to the Bharatpur police station to complain against some miscreants, who had harassed them while returning from a hotel late at night.

Buckling to mounting pressure amid nationwide outrage, the Odisha Government has ordered a judicial probe into the alleged custodial abuse of a serving Army officer and his fiancée in a Bhubaneswar police station on 15 September.

Deputy CMs Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, and two other Cabinet ministers also discussed the matter with the Army officer and his fiancée at the state guest house.
